Carving and painting on wood on everyday objects was characteristic both for the small centres of peasant home crafts that were intended for residents of the surrounding villages and for large folk art businesses that were sold in various parts of Russia and sometimes abroad. Historically,unique artistic traditions in the character and form of objects and the distinctive features and methods of their decoration formed and developedin these and other centres.
