This portrait, painted in Italy on a background of the panoramic landscape seen from an open window, is a wonderful sample of the creativity of an outstanding artist and teacher, which, for the mid-nineteenth century, is very innovative in the interpretation of the model and the whole objective environment, which is felt even in the choice of an unusually elongated horizontal format of canvas. In addition, the work is imbued with very subtly conveyed lyrical mood.
