Annotation

Embroidery was the most widespread type of folk art. North Russian embroidery has largely retained numerous compositions dating back to olden times, helping archaeologists to reconstruct the images of Slavonic pagan mythology. Geometric ornamentation, images of the goddess of the earth and the Tree of Life, riders, horses and birds embroidered with double-sided stitching in red threads on white linen echo the ancient mythology. Although this mythology has lost its original meaning over time, it is retained in the forms of ornamentation, acquiring new significance corresponding to the new environment and life.
