The subject is utterly simple: It is a scene of everyday daily life on a collective farm, which Zagonek "peeked at" in Staraya Ladoga, which he strived to travel to early in spring so he could have creative time at the dacha and catch his favorite period, nature’s transition between winter and spring.
Zagonek, Vyacheslav Franzevich (1919, Irkutsk — 1994, St Petersburg)
Painter, landscapist, genre artist. Studied at an art studio at the Andrei Zhdanov Palace of Pioneers (1932–1936), secondary school of art in Leningrad (1936–1939) and at the Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1945–1950). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1948). People’s Artist of the USSR, corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR, winner of the Ilya Repin State Prize.
