Annotation

In the second half of the 19th century, Russian artists frequently and willingly turned to subjects from the history of pre-Peter I Russia. The creation of such works required that the artist had a good understanding of Russian national costume, decorative art and architecture, a great connoisseur of which was Nikolai Nevrev, an artist who painted famous paintings with scenes from the history of the eras of Ivan the Terrible and the Time of Troubles.
