In 2012 the Association was expanded by the Russian Museum, the Moscow State United Art Historical-Architectural and Natural-Landscape Museum-Reserve "Kolomenskoe, Lefortovo, Izmailovo, Lyublino", Kirov Central Park (Yelagin Place and Park Ensemble), in 2013 - the State Rostov-Yaroslavl Architecture-Art Museum-Preserve.
The Association is an independent legal entity and a non-profit organisation.
The main objective of the Association is to unite the efforts of its members to preserve, revive and also promote products of the Russian garden and park art and landscape architecture.
As envisioned by its founders, the Association must become an open site for discussion of most critical and common issues by representatives of the professional community, the area for scientific debates and meetings, as well as for sharing professional experience with peers, including foreign ones.
Besides, it is planned to consult members of the Association on various aspects of professional activity, to render information and methodological support to them, also on issues of development of restoration techniques and performance of restoration works.
Activities of the Association are reflected on its website www.historicgardens.ru. The website is open to all visitors that are interested in garden and park art. Please send materials on the subject for publication on the website to the following address: higardens@mail.ru.
Meetings of the Association members are held at least twice a year, in the first half of the year - as a working meeting (a workshop, a round table), and in the second half – in the format of a conference. Thus, in April 2013 the members of the Association met during an introductory trip in historical gardens of Estonia, and in September 2013 the II International Scientific and Practical Conference of the Association was held in the Kirov Central Park with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The conference, the main subject of which was "Recreation Potential of Historical Gardens and Parks", was attended by more than 100 people, including those from Baltics and Ukraine, and 24 reports were read. A round table took place on the issues of park revival in Bogoroditsk, and the presentation of garden equipment by Andreas Marketing Stihl was held.
The Association strives to promote events devoted to gardens and parks that are held by its members. Thus, in 2013 the Association took part in the Tulip Festival on the Yelagin Island, the Lilac Day in Tsarskoe Selo, in the Festival "Emperor''''s Gardens of Russia" in the Mikhailovskiy Garden of the Russian Museum, and also in conferences held in Pushkinskie Gory and Yasnaya Polyana.
The Association invites famous experts on separate issues of caring for historical gardens and their contents to participate in its events, cooperates with manufacturers of garden equipment, planting materials, and other external organisations for the benefit of its members.
