The project is dedicated to the most famous music of the 20th century – the Beatles – and their well-known song “Yellow Submarine”. In 1968 George Dunning, a British director, shot an excellent cartoon film “The Beatles: Yellow Submarine” with the fab four being its main characters and singers.
The cartoon tells about a fabulous journey by four people strongly resembling the band. They travel in a yellow submarine in the made-up country of Pepperland, fighting with evil and malicious freaks for love, friendship, flowers and music. They urge us to discover the best in life, promote goodness and love.
The prototype of the Yellow Submarine in the cartoon was a real research submarine (a bathyscaphe). That''''''''s why the submarine in the cartoon features rather nonstandard architecture and is unlike the submarines we are used to.
There is another example of the legendary submarine functioning as an art-object. In 1984, the British Dockyard created a 51-feet metal work representing the yellow submarine from the famous cartoon for a competition show at the International Festival Liverpool’s Garden.
A Yellow Submarine shaped after the one from the famous cartoon is also the centre of our composition.
A submarine outline made from yellow wire, supplemented by coloured perspex elements and decorated with flowers is installed on a rolling lawn with a wavy shape.
With the help of our composition, we want to say that music by the Beatles is eternal and ageless. The fab four are adored throughout the world. They inspired the public with freedom and the desire to enjoy life and thus changed the existence of millions of people. And it is impossible to forget the Yellow Submarine!
