Core activities of the institute: architectural design, restoration and rehabilitation of architectural and cultural landmarks, development of research-project documentation.
Over the past 30 years, branch employees have conducted historical-archive and on-site studies and developed research-project documentation for 830 cultural-heritage sites in Ulyanovsk, the Ulyanovsk, Astrakhan, Volgograd and Perm Regions and the Udmurt Republic. Among the buildings restored in Ulyanovsk and Ulyanovsk Region: Priest Anaksatorov’s House on Moskovskaya Ulitsa (Museum of Urban Life); the Simbirsk Chuvash Teachers’ School, Museum and Church Complex; the Gentry Assembly Building (Book Palace) featuring the museum “Karamzin Library;” the house in which I.A. Goncharov was born and lived, and the memorial house to the writer, built using funds collected by National Subscription (Museum of Regional Natural History and Art); Yazykov House (Literary Museum); Germanov Cathedral of the Holy Resurrection; the estate of the artist A.A. Plastov in the Village of Prislonikha; the estate of the composer P.I. Tchaikovsky in Votkinsk; a number of sites at the Astrakhan Kremlin; the former mosque in the Village of Krasniy Yar, Astrakhan Region, and other sites.
