2013 marks the 155th anniversary of the founding of the Russian Imperial Horticultural Society. Landscape Design Center “Belltine,” which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, views its primary mission as the continuation and ongoing development of the traditions of the Russian school of landscape architecture and gardening.
The aim of the Center is to provide all those interested with the opportunity to gain the knowledge necessary to create their own little sanctuary where they can escape from the everyday tension of urban life. The Center’s instructional programs are varied in scope and intended for experienced and beginning gardeners alike.
Landscape art is special in that it offers a multitude of approaches to influencing the individual: his mental outlook, mood, and most importantly – his soul! Books we read, music we listen to, and architectural landmarks we contemplate – but gardens we are free to contemplate, listen to, touch, and even taste! The best gardens are created in a burst of inspiration. Since ancient times, the personification of such inspiration and people’s little helpers in the business of garden creation have been the mythological spirits of nature – elves, the light and ephemeral creatures that infuse the entire garden space with mirth and help people see its true beauty and poetry.
It is precisely this image, the image of the elf, which we chose as the symbol of our Center. We await you at the courses, lectures and other events offered at Landscape Design Center “Belltine,” where an atmosphere of creative inspiration reigns supreme.
