Philosophical Rock Garden

Annotation

Author of landscaping composition – Andrey N. Kovalevsky
Author of "Philosophical Rock Garden" composition sketch – Natalya Kazachkova

The topic of the "rock garden", this laconic composition in the nomination "Imagination Gardens" proposed by the Festival organisers, is selected as inspired by philosophy of the first landscaping architects of the "English garden" and, in particular, the master known as Capability Brown. Lancelot Brown is the largest representative of the English (landscape) park system, author of multiple existing gardens occupying hundreds of hectares in Great Britain. The name of Peter the Great and Decrees of the founder of the city, which is the venue of the VII Festival of Landscape Art, on strictly stone construction of the future emperor''''''''s capital underline the relevance of the proposed subject.
Five boulders symbolise "five primary elements" of the mathematical Fibonacci series and harmony of landscaping architecture. This series of numbers – 1; 1; 2; 3; 5… and ratios 8/13; 21/34… have been well known for a while as "golden" ratio. Laconism of the exposition object solution is emphasised by using an interactive element - a decorative fountain, the shape and colour of which resembles a natural boulder, with control of its water jet in accordance with the schedule. In the breaks between operation of the fountain it is suggested to read short introductory lectures on the subject of the festival, history and modern problems of St. Petersburg and Leningrad region parks, being based on two years of work of the composition author as the creative manager of the Volunteer Station "NARVSKY TRACT".
