THE AROMA OF KOREA

Annotation

The General Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Saint Petersburg is participating in the Imperial Gardens of Russia Festival for the first time.
As part of the festival, the General Consulate of Korea will present the AROMA OF KOREA project, an inclusive showing of the Korean animated film June Mountains, as well as the Tree of Wishes ceremony, as a reflection of Korean traditions.
The animated film June Mountains by the Korean Director Doyon Kim tells the story of a father and son who climb into the mountains. The green background of the mountain landscape is a good illustration of the landscape in early summer.
At the Tree of Wishes, throughout the festival, guests will be able to leave their wishes and dreams, writing them on special traditional Korean hanji paper, and then leaving them in the bok jumoni (“bag of happiness”) and attaching it to the branches of the tree.
The bok jumoni has a specific meaning. Since the traditional Korean hanbok costume has no pockets, pouches of this kind were sewn separately to attract happiness and prosperity. In the distance past, this sort of “bag of happiness” was given separately as a gift, a way to wish someone happiness and prosperity.
The General Consulate expresses its wish that the residents and guests of Saint Petersburg visiting the Imperial Gardens of Russia Festival will be able to become acquainted with examples of Korean Culture and discover something new about the country.
