Rockers

Rockers ALEXEI VERMISHEV

Annotation

The rockers – a common element of any urban or private garden landscape. The constructions and materials used in today’s rockers are amazingly diverse.
We offer garden rockers, or gliders, pieced together using materials straight out of the pre-revolutionary album of small architectural forms, which are featured as part of the exposition at the Urban Life Estate-Museum in Ulyanovsk (Simbirsk) entitled: «The Russian Province of the late-19th – early 20th centuries». These are pendulum-type rockers, unique and beautiful in that they are double-sided: two can rock at once, though sitting back to back.
Of course, the rocker is a comfy piece of garden furniture for pleasantly whiling away the time in the fresh air, as well as a symbol of good cheer. In Slavic culture, however, popular belief holds that rocking on rockers also has the magical power to stimulate vegetation.
The project has been implemented using materials supplied by the Middle Volga Branch of FSUE «Spetsproektrestavratsiya» Institute and the restoration firm Kapitel LLC, with the participation of artist Alexei Vermishev.
