Architect Jean-Baptiste Alexandre Le Blond, a favorite of Peter the Great, wanted to make St. Petersburg the most beautiful city in Europe.
The Le Blond’s Cabinet is a – dedication project, a tribute to the greatest architect, who in many respects determined the shape of our city since it was founded until now. Le Blond is the author of the first general plan of city development, Ekateringof and Summer Gardens planning. He also made the interior design of the Summer Palace of Peter the Great. He worked in Peterhof and Strelna, built the first Peterhof Palace, created the planning foundations of fountain complex. The activities of the architect was incredibly diverse: in 1718 he created the first draft of oil street lamp for St. Petersburg, wrote the book “How to create parks”. The most important rule of the regular parks for Le Blond was the submission of art to nature. He particularly excelled as architect in the construction of buildings, palaces and tenements of rich nobles, being a founder of a new interior decoration style.
Creativity and innovation, creative energy and ability to combine functionality and beauty were valued by his crowned patron – Peter the Great, because of whom the fate of the architect and St. Petersburg were inextricably linked.
