Administration of Park and Garden Household was established on January 27, 1944 by the
decision of the Leningrad City Council of People’s Deputies and for 67 years it has been engaged in coordination of works on amenity planting, green resources preservation and development of the landscape gardening system of St Petersburg.
The main areas of the Administration’s activity are:
• formulation of development concept for objects of park and garden household and aesthetic
Forestry;
• management development of objects of park and garden household and aesthetic forestry;
• accounting management of green planting and control over its performance in the territory of
St Petersburg;
• coordination and control over the activity of entities, state institutions and open joint-stock
companies in the sphere of park and garden household and aesthetic forestry of the city;
• accomplishment of actions on safeguard and protection of the green resources of St Petersburg;
• holding and implementation of the state policy in the sphere of preservation, creation, upkeep
and recovery of green planting;
• implementation of programs on construction and maintenance of objects of park and garden
household and aesthetic forestry.
At the present time the Administration of Park and Garden Household registered and provides
running maintenance of 76 parks, 128 gardens, 1,088 public gardens, 105 avenues, 975 sites performing specialized functions in terms of outdoor greenery, as well as the territories of urban forests, spanning a total of 22.9K hectares. The work involved in the maintenance and upkeep of these sites and public green spaces is performed by 15 district garden-park enterprises and 8 park enterprises specially created for the purposes of park servicing. The upkeep of city forests is undertaken by SPb SPI “Kurortniy Lesopark” (Resort Forest-Park).
Specialists of park and garden entities carry out condition monitoring of green resources in which accordance the annual planting project is formed. Great significance is paid to flower decoration and vertical gardening of the main city streets, parks, gardens and public gardens. Projects of flower decoration of St Petersburg are developed and renovated by the Administration on annual basis. In the process of work performing advanced materials and technologies are used.
